Lime sculpture and a trip to The Vyne

DSC05452.JPG

Last week I finished this lime sculpture which was commissioned for an upcoming birthday with the figures representing the grandfather and his five grandchildren. It was based on a picture supplied by my customer and then altered according to the brief. Made from Lime and finished in a dark beeswax it's now on it's way to it's new home in Germany!

After working on the sculpture and lettering all week I decided to visit The Vyne near Basingstoke to be reminded of the amazing work produced by the master carvers back in the day. As you can expect in these stately homes, the range of carving and plasterwork is amazing and provides great motivation to get back in the workshop and carve some architectural details!
