Over the last couple of weeks I've been on my first work placement in Frome gaining some much valued advice and guidance from Master Carver Charles Oldham. Charlie specialises in mirror and picture frames so I'm now trying my hand at one. I've begun producing a picture frame which consists of several different elements which are commonly found in architectural details such as Egg and dart, sausage and pea, acanthus flourishes and floral details. Not only am I getting the opportunity to try my hand at as many different sample carvings as I can fit it, I'm also working mainly in pine which makes a change from the oak and lime that I usually work in
The frame coming together featuring egg and dart mouldings, sausage and pea around the inside and flowers in the corners. The top is going to feature a shell and acanthus flourish as well.
