A bit of old and new...

Finally managed to sit down for five minutes to update this blog- has been a little busy of late- not that I’m complaining.

Lots of challenging projects under way at the moment, the biggest of which is this pub sign for the Holt Hotel that requires some restoration work. Sections of rotten oak need to removed, fresh oak fitted in and re-carved to match the design followed by the whole piece getting a fresh coat of paint. The ‘box’ section that sits at the base of the sign needs to be made from scratch as it has completely rotten through- not a quick job to fix but definitely something to get my teeth stuck into!

I’ve also just finished this Christening spoon for little Maisie who is getting Christened next weekend. It was commissioned by her great grandmother I think it’s fair to say there’s isn’t any chance she’ll be getting two of the same present where this is concerned.

The spoon measures about 7" high in total so the lettering had to be pretty tiny to fit in and still be legible.

Still to come, two retirement presents and a mothers day present with a difference but I'll wait until after the event to put pictures up as I'd hate to spoil the surprise if she stumbled upon the pics.

Last Friday I also spent the morning being photographed whilst carving by Steve Kenward , a photographer who has been working on a series call ‘Made not Manufactured’. The photos are meant to be ending up in Simple Things magazine in the next few months or so, I’ll put the link on here when the article comes out.
