Work has begun on the restoration of the Holt hotel sign. I've now determined how much is rotten and what needs replacing and re-carving. I've started stripping the loose paint off so it does look a bit of a mess at the moment, but it is good to see some of the carved details showing now that layers of paint have been removed.
A memorial bench that I carved months ago has at last been fitted down the river walk in Liss. Together with a couple of stone statues which have also been installed it definitely makes a it a bit more interesting along the walk!
I've also been asked to carve a couple of sample sections of skirting moulding in oak so I got these finished last week and now just waiting to hear back :)
In other news...
It's now been confirmed that I have been accepted on the Princes Foundation Building Skills Apprenticeship scheme starting at the end of July! All very exciting, a lot of it is based up in Scotland with work placements yet to be confirmed. It is a great opportunity and a chance to try my hand at a few other traditional skills such as thatching and stonemasonry as well as the chance to improve my carving and gain further training by some master carvers.
Unfortunately this does mean that I'm no longer able to take on any further commissions for this year as I am now fully booked up until the end of July. I will be back in March 2015 though so it give plenty of time to think about any carvings you may like for next year!
