Birthday/Christening presents

I'm happy to report that January is turning out to be just as busy as December with lots of bespoke Birthday and Christening presents including these oak bookends, a gift from Poppy's Godparents on her Christening.

Tomorrow I'm out of the workshop and going to Berkshire to do some carvings into an oak porch- photos to follow!

Christmas orders

November is absolutely flying by and it seems Christmas is going to be here before we know it. Anniversary present

Amongst other carvings I have just finished this oak plaque which says 'I Love You' in Dhivehi (Maldives). With the date of their wedding underneath, this was then faux aged to give it a bit more character than a new piece of oak. It's 25mm thick so can easily be hung on the wall or just placed on a mantel/ shelf.

RAF badge replica

As part of the restoration work to a 1919 barometer, I was asked to replicate an oak RAF badge, working from a section that only contained about 1/2 of the design. I wasn't able to find a design which matched perfectly so a bit of artistic license was used!

Stucco work

As a change of pace from my carving commissions, I have spent the morning experimenting with stucco as part of an ongoing commission to provide some stucco panels for a house in Horsham. Traditionally it is left as plain white decoration but I'm experimenting with adding different pigments to see how the design will look with a few earthy colours included.

Oak bookends

I've just finished my latest commission which was another pair of solid oak bookends as a Christening present;

My next project requires a bit more work as I have been asked to restore or replicate a 1919 RAF badge for a barometer, only trouble is there is only 1/3 of the original piece to work from so a bit of research is required to find the full design!

Lacewood

I have finally managed to track down a supplier of some Lacewood so I now have a decent amount in stock. Lacewood is from the Plane tree and has a really interesting grain and colouring to it which looks fantastic once waxed and polished.

Pool cue holder

Another busy week this week, I've almost finished this bespoke Pool cue holder for a customer in oak, just a few small modifications to make then it's done, I also have a variety of wedding anniversary gifts that have to be finished by the end of the week as well as some design work.

On top of all that I'm off to Portsmouth Cathedral in the morning to discuss designs for a carving for the bell tower! More on that later...
